Protect Your Legacy. Provide for Your Family.

Comprehensive estate planning strategies that ensure your wealth transfers to the people and causes you care about β€” on your terms, not the government's.

Our Approach

Estate Planning Is Not Just for the Wealthy

One of the most pervasive and costly misconceptions about estate planning is that it's only necessary for the ultra-wealthy. In reality, without a proper estate plan, your assets may pass through probate β€” a public, time-consuming, and expensive court process β€” regardless of your net worth. Your wishes may not be honored. Family members may face unnecessary conflict, delays, and tax burdens. Minor children may be left without clear guardianship direction.

At N&M DeGiorgio Associates, we've been helping families and business owners build comprehensive estate plans since 2015 β€” coordinated directly with their tax, investment, and retirement planning for maximum effectiveness. Our approach is practical, thorough, and designed around your specific family situation, assets, and goals.

Whether your estate is simple or complex, we help you create a clear, legally sound framework that protects your family, minimizes estate and inheritance taxes, and ensures your legacy reflects your values. We work in close coordination with estate attorneys to ensure every document is properly drafted and executed.

What We Offer

Who This Is For

Young Families

If you have children, you need an estate plan. Without one, guardianship of your minor children and distribution of your assets are left to state law β€” not your wishes.

High-Net-Worth Individuals

Significant assets require sophisticated strategies to minimize estate taxes and ensure efficient, private transfer to heirs β€” often using trusts and gifting techniques.

Business Owners

A business succession plan ensures your company transfers smoothly β€” whether to a family member, business partner, or outside buyer β€” without unnecessary taxes or disputes.

Our Estate Planning Process

1

Estate Inventory & Goal Setting

We document your assets, liabilities, family structure, and goals β€” and identify any gaps in your current plan.

2

Strategy Development

We design the optimal estate plan structure β€” trust types, gifting strategies, beneficiary designations, and tax minimization approaches.

3

Document Coordination

We work with qualified estate attorneys to ensure all documents are properly drafted, reviewed, and executed.

4

Ongoing Review

Estate plans must evolve. Life changes β€” marriages, divorces, births, deaths, new assets β€” and so does tax law. We review annually.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most people benefit from having both. A will directs how your assets are distributed and names guardians for minor children, but it goes through probate. A revocable living trust avoids probate, keeps your estate private, and can simplify the administration process for your heirs. The right combination depends on your assets, family situation, and privacy concerns.

If you die intestate (without a will or trust), your state's laws determine how your assets are distributed β€” which may not match your wishes. Your estate will pass through probate, which is public, time-consuming, and costly. If you have minor children, the court will appoint a guardian without guidance from you. This is entirely avoidable with basic estate planning.

We recommend reviewing your estate plan at least every three to five years, or whenever you experience a significant life change β€” marriage, divorce, the birth or adoption of a child, the death of a beneficiary or trustee, a major change in assets, or a move to a different state. Changes in federal or state estate tax law can also necessitate updates.

Beneficiary designations on retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and other financial accounts override your will. If you named an ex-spouse as a beneficiary 20 years ago and never updated it, that ex-spouse may inherit β€” regardless of what your will says. We review all beneficiary designations as part of our estate planning process to ensure they are coordinated and current.
